Two Kids walking through the woods at night, stopping to play in the water. The area starts to become even darker, until it is pitch black, with only the front most trees visible. The water slowly starts to turn blood red, a mysterious howling is heard. Through the darkness, glowing circles appear in couples. The kids can’t move, they’re completely paralyzed, bleeding from their eyes, ears and mouths. The figures around them mock their laughing. Till eventually the children bleed out into the water, leaving the lifeless corpses to float downstream and never be seen again.

The theme was ”Enchanted Forest” so I set out to write such a piece featuring a lot of organic elements, only… enchanted. Meaning add distortion :D I think I created a very nice emotion here with this song, and it remains one of my best to this day. I forget the results of the compo though. Probably got 2nd to last as usual.

I wrote this with the intent of having it be used in a very intense story-related boss battle, but I suppose it could just as easily be used for a normal boss or a chase scene perhaps. It’s quite fast paced, and uses some articulations of instruments that I’ve never used before, like Col Legno on the bass section. It’s meant to loop as well.

Instruments Used:
Male and female choir, full string section, harp, grand piano, percussion (snare drum, bass drum, timpani, woodblocks, tambourine, cymbals), tuba, french horn section, trumpet section, oboe, clarinet, and flute. Basically a full orchestra.

Inspiration:
Various boss themes from Kindgom Hearts with driving bass lines and fast percussion, and Shizu. :)
