About a week ago, I received a music submission from IntoTheSky. He has done a remix of the song Radical Dreamers, from the game Chrono Cross. Ah, of course I had to listen to it, even though we don’t typically post remixes.

There was singing. Anyone who knows me knows that I am almost always against singing in VG remixes. This is an exception. IntoTheSky has an earthy voice and he doesn’t overdo it. The song is quite good, and very nostalgic for those who have played the game.

Hi all.

After much deliberation, I decided to take the forums down. They were almost totally inactive. Most of the traffic is on the music anyway, and each post has the ability for comments. So I’m happy with the way that works.

Sorry to see them go, but it had to be done. Spam bots were definitely winning the fight against poor PHPBB.

On a related note, if there are any topics you were dying to keep, let me know. I have archives of the forums going back about 6 years. =)

NI: Session Strings

June 14, 2010 – Native Instruments has released a “Contemporary String Ensemble” called Session Strings. This plugs into Kontakt 4 (free with purchase).

I’ve watched some of the demos and it’s hot. I mean, it’s just great stuff. I will be looking to buy this before the end of the year, and if you can use Kontakt, you should too. Not only does this sound amazing, the features it comes with are very cool too (see: automator).

At just shy of $120, it’s a real deal for the quality of the instruments AND the quality of the features.

Upload Music (made simple)

Yesterday I finished testing and adding a new page for submitting your music to Sakari Infinity. It turned out that there were a lot of ways to handle this, but none met my criteria for what I considered to be “acceptable”. So, I programmed a simple upload form like we used to have. Now it’s live for you all to use. It’s easy!

Step 1: Click on the Upload button at the top of the page.

Step 2: Fill out the form and attach your MP3 song.

Step 3: Click Upload and wait for your piece to appear on the site.

Of course, the same guidelines apply as have always applied. If your music doesn’t meet the criteria, I won’t post it. So check the general guidelines at the bottom of the form. It’s really a no-brainer though. If you have put a decent amount of time into your music and are taking it relatively seriously, you won’t have to even read the guidelines because they are common sense. lol

If you have any questions, just ask. Enjoy! =)

Sakari @ SXSW

Hey all. I am currently at South by South West (a conference in Austin, TX). I just attended a music licensing / copyright panel, and one of the guys on the panel had actually heard of us. Pretty cool. In any case, this is just me telling everyone that I’m one step closer to getting a true stepping stone in place for those of you who are looking to make the leap from amateur musician to licensing and selling your music.

I’ll be coming up with more information on licensing and publishing soon, as well as more details on commercial stuff. This kind of ties in (as far as timing) with my other announcement.

My other announcement is that I’ve come to realize that the new layout and software for the site is not working out as well as I’d thought. So I’m here to say that I’m coming up with a new layout and custom web site, like I do. I like the new design, so we’ll stick with that. More news on this soon. =)

WordPress won’t go away entirely (we need a blog) but it’s not working out as the core software. Stay tuned!

Announcement: To Musicians

We have opened up our doors, and are allowing all musicians to upload and post DIRECTLY to Sakari Infinity. Soon, there will be a page for requesting this “Author” status on SI. Until then, please contact me to have me update you to this status.

Do not abuse this! There are a few rules about uploads… These should be self-explanatory, but I do need to post them.

RULES

Make sure your posts are meaningful and complete. No one-sentence posts. If you need an example, we have about 300 of them. Check out some of the more recent submissions to get an idea.
Do NOT post incomplete or experimental songs. If the song is an experiment (for you) and complete, then you can upload it. Examples:
- OK – You’ve never written in 3/4 time before, so you “experiment” and write / complete a song in 3/4 time and upload it.
- NOT OK – You are messing around with riffs and throw something together to see how people like it. <- This is a WIP and SHOULD NOT be hosted on Sakari Infinity. Host it on dropbox.com and post it in the WIP forum.
We are MP3 ONLY. I understand that some people like OGG, and that’s fine. Feel free to link to OGG versions of your music, but if you want to host the file on Sakari Infinity, you may only use MP3 format. If you upload a WAV file without permission, I will ban you. I’m not joking here, no one likes a 40MB download for a 4 minute song. Not cool.
